The Labour Party (Partit Laburista, PL) is a social-democratic political party in Malta, founded in 1920. It currently forms the government and is led by Prime Minister Robert Abela. The party is affiliated with the Party of European Socialists.

  • +€50 per week pension increase

    Pensions

    A €50 per week increase in pensions to be implemented over the next legislature, helping pensioners cope with the cost of living. Outlined in the PL 2026 campaign as a flagship social measure for the elderly.

  • +28 days additional leave for new parents returning to work

    Family

    New parents returning to work after parental leave will be entitled to an additional 28 days of leave to ease the transition back to employment. Outlined in the PL 2026 campaign under work-life balance and family-friendly measures.

  • €1,000 'super bonus' for workers and other financial measures

    Economy

    The Labour Party, led by Prime Minister Robert Abela, announced a proposal for a yearly €1,000 'super bonus' for all workers, pensioners who work, the self-employed, and students who have been residents of Malta for at least five years. The party also proposed taxing companies with a turnover under €1 million at 25% instead of 35%, increasing the Children's Allowance and in-work benefits, and introducing a transitional mechanism for housing benefit applicants. These proposals are presented as part of the party's platform for the upcoming 30 May election.

  • €1,000 Erasmus grant for students going abroad

    Students participating in an Erasmus exchange would receive a one-off €1,000 grant.

  • €1,200 notarial fees refund for first-time buyers

    First-time property buyers would receive a €1,200 refund on notarial fees.

  • €20,000 grant proposed for first-time buyers with disabilities

    Housing

    People with disabilities will receive double the grant offered to first-time home buyers under a new proposal announced by Prime Minister Robert Abela on Thursday. Speaking in Birgu, a Labour stronghold, Abela said the measures were designed to strengthen independence and improve quality of life for those with disabilities and neurodivergent individuals.
