Nationalist Party

For a Better Malta

About

The Nationalist Party (Partit Nazzjonalista, PN) is a Christian-democratic and centre-right political party in Malta. Formed in 1926 from the merger of the Maltese Political Union and the Democratic Nationalist Party, PN traces its roots back to Fortunato Mizzi's 1880 Anti-Reform Party. It led Malta into European Union membership in 2004 under Prime Minister Eddie Fenech Adami and is currently the main opposition party in the House of Representatives, led by Alex Borg with Alex Perici Calascione as deputy leader.

  • Less dependence on imported products

We will create a plan to reduce dependence on imported inputs, including feed, fertilizers, and energy, through greater circularity, use of by-products, and efficiency. The aim is to strengthen the strategic autonomy of the sector and reduce vulnerability to external shocks.

  • Full valorization of local male calves

We will support a cooperative unit or system so that male dairy calves are not lost but raised for local beef. By mid-legislature, we will build a chain that uses more local resources, creates added value, and reduces dependence on beef imports.

  • Soil plan

We will launch a National plan for soil protection with analysis, monitoring, and action against erosion, hard soil, and organic matter loss. Farmers entering the scheme will receive personalized advice on the actions they need to take.

  • Protection and propagation of indigenous varieties and breeds

We will invest in the conservation, registration, and propagation of local plant varieties and relevant local animal breeds and saplings, both for climate resilience and agricultural identity. Within three years, we will have a genetic bank program, nursery, and support for sustainable commercial use.
