Nationalist Party

For a Better Malta

About

The Nationalist Party (Partit Nazzjonalista, PN) is a Christian-democratic and centre-right political party in Malta. Formed in 1926 from the merger of the Maltese Political Union and the Democratic Nationalist Party, PN traces its roots back to Fortunato Mizzi's 1880 Anti-Reform Party. It led Malta into European Union membership in 2004 under Prime Minister Eddie Fenech Adami and is currently the main opposition party in the House of Representatives, led by Alex Borg with Alex Perici Calascione as deputy leader.

  • 'Eco-Reduction' For Singles On Energy Bills

    Energy

The Nationalist Party (PN) has proposed new measures to make energy costs fairer for families and individuals, specifically an extended "eco-reduction" for single-person households. This proposal aims to address the higher relative costs faced by individuals living alone and better reflect changing lifestyles in energy policy. The PN highlighted that increased electricity consumption due to remote work and cleaner technologies should not penalize those going greener.

  • €12 million investment in data, AI, and 'newspace' industries

    Economy

PN leader Alex Borg announced economic proposals focusing on AI, data, and 'newspace' industries, alongside the creative sector. This includes a €350 million cultural district in Marsa with a National Hall and Marsa Expo Centre, and a €12 million investment over five years in AI, data, and space-related industries. The plan aims to create high-value jobs and economic growth without increasing pressure on infrastructure.

  • €300 Smartwatch Scheme To Reward Young People For Staying Active | Fit4Life Grant

    Health

The Nationalist Party has proposed a €300 grant for smartwatches aimed at young people aged between 15 and 25, as part of a new initiative called Fit4Life. The initiative is intended to encourage physical activity, including walking, training and sport, as a preventive measure against obesity, inactivity and avoidable illnesses. Under the proposal, the smartwatch would be linked to a voucher scheme. Participants who meet activity targets would be able to redeem vouchers for sports equipment, gym memberships, fitness classes and other health-related activities. The party said the scheme would be voluntary and focused on incentives rather than monitoring. It also stated that any data collected would be used in a limited and transparent way, in line with data protection rules.

  • €450 million fuel hub near Hurd's Bank

    Energy

The Nationalist Party (PN) has proposed a €450 million plan to build a fixed fuel hub off Hurd's Bank to service vessels in the Mediterranean. PN leader Alex Borg stated this hub would generate significant revenue, create 150 high-value jobs, and remove the need for the LNG tanker currently moored in Marsaxlokk by connecting to the Delimara power station via a subsea pipeline. The PN plans to establish a task force for implementation within 100 days of being elected and aims to finalize the project through a public-private partnership before the end of the legislature.
